DAY TWENTY-NINE: May 4th
I personally, do like Wikipedia. I believe it contains lots of great enriching information, although some information you must be careful with. After reading the article 4 Ways to use Wikipedia I have decided that I would allow my future students to use this site as a reference. The greatest thing about Wikipedia is all the extras it gives you on the topic. It will give you related sites that can be recorded and appropriate references. It also gives you books and articles. I believe this is a great tool, although the teacher might want to evaluate or skim over the site before the student uses it. As a student, I have never had a problem with Wikipedia. It has always been a resourceful tool.
DAY TWENTY-EIGHT: April 29th
I validated the website called All about Explorers. I found out that the entire website was made just for students to learn that not all information found on the internet is correct. This teaches students to look for authority, credibility, and reliability of information on the site. Within my Think Aloud I ask the viewers to summarize what they think the site will be about by analyzing the title. I point out that the URL ends in a .com meaning that it is used for commercial. I also have the viewers notice the information at the bottom of the pages; copyright date, last updated, etc. Throughout the rest of my Think Aloud I have the viewers skim, read, synthesize, and analyze information on the site. By then end they will have concluded that the site was a learning tool and the information was inaccurate.
DAY TWENTY-SEVEN: April 27th
I learned many things while searching for information on the internet today, however, one specific event caught my attention and curiousity. I learned today that the interent contains falsely made sites in order to teach children about the internet. I think this is a brilliant idea because there is too much information on the internet and students need to know how to discover good/true information from bad/false. I was intrigued that educators and others came together and spent so much time to make sites like these, but they are such a great learning tool! I believe this activity related most to standard 4a; Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility: advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources.

DAY TWENTY-SIX: April, 22nd
One thing that I learned today about Smartboards from my peers presentations is specifically that all the devices can be changed from the actual board. Therefore, the students can changed passwords, documents, and enter other information that teachers do not want them to have acsess to. I also learned that teachers have had major problems with losing material. A benefit that I discovered was that Smartboards come with their own interactive notebook; this comes with many interesting tools compared to a normal computer's notebook. All groups struggled getting their presentation ready or had some sort of mouse or other difficulty. Therefore, most groups believe there is too much time wasted while getting supplies ready. Teachers need time and they need to be trained!!
DAY TWENTY-FIVE: April 20th
In reality, I believe Smartboards are not worth the financial investment, as of right now. I believe students can perform activities easier and faster on their own computer monitors than by taking turns on a Smartboard. Don't get me wrong I think Smartboards are fun and great, but I believe it is a technology that needs to be farther studied and or enhanced in order to be investing that extreme amount of money. Smartboards are great for certain subjects, but for others they are limited. So, during this time I think Smartboards are not worth the investment, however; in the future they might be. I would invest in a Smartboard as a future teacher if they were easier to set up and if they were not powered by a projector.

DAY TWENTY-FOUR: April 15th
Whiteboards help teachers meet the ISTE-NETS-T because teachers have the ability to adapt lessons to this new learning peice of technogoly. Whiteboards are creative and allow students to interact upon each other. This new and fun experience can make any boring lesson fun and influencing. Whiteboards help meet standard "Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments": 2a. design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.
Tuesday, April 13, 2010
DAY TWENTY-THREE: April 13th
A piece of evidence shown within the reading, Interactive Whiteboards and Learning: A Review of Classroom Case Studies and Research Literature, that proves Smartboards are worth the educational investment is the strong learning production. Current learning theories promote student engagement and consider this type of engagement to be a key component of knowledge construction. These learning theories include constructivism and active learning. With the Smartboard both of these tasks can be met along with many others. "The SMART Board interactive whiteboard supports interaction and conversation in the classroom; it helps with the presentation of new cultural and linguistic elements" (Gerard 1999).
WebQuest by ElanaSlaubaugh

This great interactive WebQuest was made to teach fourth graders about famous pirates. It relates to multiple intelligences in many ways and evaluates each student on group and individual work. Hope you like it!!

DAY TWENTY-TWO: April 8th
While students complete their WebQuests they will develop the ability to apply technology effectively. They will learn to use technology as a tool to research, organize, evaluate and communicate information
DAY TWENTY-ONE: April 6th
SS.S.2.1 Citizenship Students will...
model a respect for symbols, ideas and concepts of the United States and analyze the roles of significant individuals (Respect For People, Events, and Symbols).
By creating a webquest, my future students will meet the following ISTE-NETS-T; Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity, 1c. promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.

DAY TWENTY: April 1st
Pirates
I would really like to make a few good changes on this WebQuest. First of all I feel this WebQuest is based too much on making crafts. I would like to take out some of the craft making and add in some group writing and or research. I also would like to end the week off with a more planned activity. The site does not give full instructions for the "dress up" day. All in all I would like to make this project a little more harder and cut out one or two crafts. Also add in some group work. The font and pitures were creative and appropriate; however, I feel it needs to be more piratey looking (less bright colors/ more black and possibly red). The links were great! I think this would be a great activity by adding in more activities pertaining to different intelligences.
The teacher who created this WebQuest is from North Carolina so their standards are different then ours. I chose to use North Carolina's Standard Course of Study since this was orginially her idea and deals with North Carolins history.
Competency Goal 3: The learner will trace the history of colonization in North Carolina and evaluate its significance for diverse people's ideas.
3.02 Identify people, symbols, events, and documents associated with North Carolina's history.
Competency Goal 4: The learner will analyze social and political institutions in North Carolina such as government, education, religion, and family and how they structure society, influence behavior, and respond to human needs.
4.05 Identify and assess the role of prominent persons in North Carolina, past and present.

DAY NINETEEN: March 30th
Which Standard does the WebQuest activity best teach?
The WebQuest "Unraveling the Underground Railroad" best teaches the following ISTE NETS for students:
3. Research and Information Fluency: Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information.
Students:
a. plan strategies to guide inquiry.
b. locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media.
c. evaluate and select information sources and digital tools based on the appropriateness to specific tasks.
d. process data and report results.

WebQuest Winner!
Our overall group winner was "Unraveling the Underground Railroad." This activity was chosen off the website A WebQuest about WebQuests, as the best WebQuest even though it was not recommeneded best by the Efficiency Expert. Our group found that it appealed mostly to the Affiliator, the Altitudinist, and the Technophile. As the Affiliator of our group I believe this WebQuest represented my beliefs best because of the major group work. Each child had individual work to look up, so all members did work, and then they gathered together to discuss and role-play. We thought it was the best looking and contained lots of links and information. It also was chosen by the Altitudinist because the work was not all factual and it pertained to many different intelligences!

Flickr safe... ??
How can educators make sites like Flickr safe for their students?
As an educator, the teacher can limit the use of the search button. Therefore the students can not search inappropriate material. The teacher can also filter who can see certain pictures and information by blocking individuals with the Flickr's group tool. Groups can be open to everyone or by invitation only. This keeps information safe. In the end teachers really need to thank Flickr, itself, for keeping their students safe because this program is always developing new privacy tools and continues to develop new school-friendly tools, such as GeoTagging.

DAY EIGHTEEN: March 25th
By creating a digital story students help meet the ISTE NETS for Students In my opinion, this activity best relates to standard 1a; Creativity and Innovation:Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. This means that the students apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes, which is exactly what the fifth grade class did when making their digital stories. They already understood how to write a story, all they had to do was learn the digital technology.
DAY SEVENTEEN: March 23rd
Today I joined a social network on Ning called Bructon's Five. After creating my membership I posted a minibiography about myself. The creation of something like this on a social network site helps develope competencies in Communication & Technology because the students are gaining skills in using technology as a tool to research, organize, evaluate, and communicate information. After each fact stated about myself, I posted an image relating to tht topic. This entire project builds students' skills on using different tools and it also helps them to understand and filter appropriate information.

DAY SIXTEEN: March 11th
Creating a magazine cover with Powerpoint will help students develop media literacy skills because it allows them to understand and utilize the most appropriate media creation tools, characteristics, and conventions. This activity is hands on and they get to develop their own cover by using media tools. Also by creating a magazine cover a teacher is able to derive whether a tudent knows certain information or not. As a future teacher, I would like to use this magazine cover idea for information we are learning in the classroom. For example, I could have my kids create a magazine cover dealing with a certain history topic. By doing this the students are able to work on developing their media literacy skills while I can use the activity as a type of assessment.
DAY FIFTEEN: March 9th
The magazine covers showed during class today depicted different views of Arnold Schwarzenegger. One cover contained an image of Arnold fiercly in a small shirt showing his large muscles for a body builder magazine. The other magazine picture was taken during the same year and it was a picture of Arnold smiling in a black suit with his wedding ring showing for a political aid. Both of thee pictures were taken of the same person, within the same year, and yet they meant totally different obligations. These magazine covers will help students develop media literacy skills by examining how individuals interpret messages differently, how values and points of view are included or excluded, and how media can influence beliefs and behaviors.

DAY FOURTEEN: March 4th
A Worlde activity helps students meet innovation skills because they are focusing on creativity, critical thinking, and communication. By using a wordle in the classroom students can individually answer a certain question or relate words. Then, the teacher or students can create a wordle showing which answers were similar and different. Last, students will critically think or communicate to discuss the wordle outcome as a group. Wordles can be used in multiple learning situations. They are fun and productive at the same time, plus they build Innovation Skills.

DAY THIRTEEN: March 2nd
By using bookmarks on my blackboard and blog, I am promoting Information and Media Literacy Skills. A bookmark is a stored location for quick retrieval at a later date. With these bookmarks I have the ability to access my links fast and efficient. This relates to "having the access to an abundance of information." My bookmarks direct me exactly where I need to go on the internet without having to remember url's for each individual site.

DAY TWELVE: Feb 25th
Today, I created a Hypermedia Quiz to help students gain Life and Career Skills. My quiz contained a question in which the student would answer. If the question was answered correctly a "correct" slide would appear and if it was answered incorrectly a "try again" slide would appear. Either way the student has the ability to return to the main question slide and try again. I believe Hypermedia Quiz's help students be flexible and allows them to deal positively with praise, setbacks, and criticism. Students must be positive about answering a question wrong because they will not always be correct. They need to develop a positive attitude that allows them to keep trying until they achieve their goal and I think Hypermedia Quizes do just that!
Tuesday, February 23, 2010
DAY ELEVEN: Feb 23rd
I believe that collaborative story writing helps students build life and career skills because they are learning to adapt to change and be flexible. They were able to write their view and then base the ending of their story on my point of view. I think this project allowed them to understand, negotiate and balance diverse views and beliefs to reach workable solutions.

ARTICLE: Feb 20th
Overcoming the Learning Curve is an article about a high school teacher who is integrating technology into his curricumlum. After reading this article, answer the following question. Do you believe that the economy and budgets are the main causes to holding schools back from technology? What other problems are apparent?

DAY TEN: Feb 18th
Today in class I uploaded a photo story, called Our President Speaks to YouTube. The actions I performed meet standard 2A; Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments; design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity. While designing my photo story, I learned to use different digital tools. This experience was very creative and by posting my video on You Tube I am able to be heard by others.
In the future, I woiuld love to use Photo Story 3 to make digital song books. These picture slides with recorded music would be a great way for students to learn and it would be fun!

DAY NINE: Feb 16th
I am now an active member of the YouTube world. By creating this account, I feel inspired to invent educational videos to share with others. I believe this meets the standard 1A: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity; promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness. I am now aware that I can learn from other members' videos for educational purposes.
As a future teacher, this account will allow me to share my work with the world. I really would like to use this as an opportunity to create and post song books for other teachers.

DAY EIGHT: Feb 11th
I find myself using this standard a lot during my out-of-school life. Standard 4A: Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility; advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources. I believe the internet is a wonderful invention; however, I am sure to always stay safe. It is important to know what type of information is appropriate to let out into this technology network. I also find it very important to respect copyright. I use devices (pictures) from the internet all the time, but it is imporatnt to give credit when credit is do.

DAY SEVEN: Feb 9th
On February 9th, I set up a blog on blogmeister. This account will enable me to speak with my classmates and younger students from California. We will be able to learn from each other and discuss educational events. I believe this meets the 3C standard:Model Digital-Age Work and Learning; communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats.
My senior year I depended on the Internet and Blackboard to accomplish my class work. The system was new to me and no teacher was provided so I had to teach myself how to operate the system. I was forced to set my goals for the class and manage my own learning. I soon became very familiar with the technology and rather enjoyed my online classes. I liked being able to work at a faster pace, rather than staying at the same speed of my class. I believe this experience pertains to standard 2B:Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments; develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress.

DAY SIX: Feb 4th
Today I spoke with a young student over skype about the usage of descriptive words in an autobiography. Spyke is a network that allows individuals to video conference. Through this experience I was able to help a young student from California understand how to use adjectives in a productive way. I feel that this learning experience relates to standard 3C: Model Digital-Age Work and Learning; communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats.
As a future teacher, I find skype very interesting. I believe it is a great communication network. In my opinion it would definetly come to good use between faculty and staff. I would like to further investigate and learn about skype.

DAY FIVE: Feb 2nd
By using google forms, you have the ability to apply numerous questions and depict what type of question they are; whether it be multiple choice, short answer, paragraph form, or etc. This allows assessments to be varied in a productive way. By creating graphs students can learn from each others' answers while remaining anonymous; however, the teacher will be able to know who answered what. Both of these actions are convenient and relate to standard 2d: Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments; provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching.
I am eager to use google forms because it is fast and convenient. I will be able to create varied assessments in minutes for my classroom. I also believe both of these actions can be used for fun and creative learning; For example: The two questions and graph posted on my blog for my colleagues to answer.

DAY FOUR: Jan 28th
Today in class, I joined the Web 2.0 and Schools- Discussion group through facebook. This group page will allow me to interact with Web 2.0 members from around the world. I will be able to discuss educational ideas, problems, technology, or etc. with others to improve my future classroom. By joining this group I have met the requirements of standard 5A: Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership; participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning.
Tuesday, January 26, 2010
DAY THREE: Jan 26th
Signed up today with Classroom 2.0... This network would refer to the 3D standard: Model Digital-Age Work and Learning; model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning. I believe Classroom 2.0 would pertain to this standard because it is open to all teachers to explore classroom ideas. Educators post ideas that worked, didn't work, or etc. in the classroom. In my opinion it is like a huge google based website used for education only.
As a future teacher, I believe Classroom 2.0 will be a good resource for lessons and advice. I am positive I will use it in some way. I need to first learn how to use it and explore the site to get the full effect, but I am sure that when I do become familar with Classroom 2.0 I will use it all the time!

DAY TWO: Jan 21st
As I created my resume with the help of google documents, I realized that this activity related to standard 3A; Model Digital-Age Work and Learning: demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations. This standard relates to the google assignment because I used knowledge about myself in which I am full aware of and transferred it into a resume format. I took this knowledge about myself and used it to learn a new technology system.
Google documents is a wonderful system to use because it automatically saves your work. Students can open their work on any computer without a disk or jump drive. I would use this in my class for written work because of the convenient saving mechanism. It also contains multiple formats ready to use, all it needs is the appropriate information put in place.

DAY ONE: Jan. 19th
Today, I set up a blog... I believe this activity met the 3B standard; Model Digital-Age Work and Learning: collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation. Setting up this blog will enable me to connect with my teacher and classmates. My blog will allow me to participate in new educational opportunities pertaining to technology.
In the future I would like to have my students use blogging not only to talk to their peers about educational things, but to connect with the outside world. Perhaps this would allow them to learn different cultures.
